DETAILS  - for the 2nd Great San Francisco Beach Impeach - A28 - 2007

-- ARRIVAL TIME 10:30, Saturday April 28 -- Please arrive NO LATER THAN 10:30 a.m., and look for signs and/or people handing out fliers with instructions on them. In January, this system worked well – and if in doubt, just follow your instincts. The helicopter (or two or three?) is scheduled to be in position offshore at 11 a.m. and won’t be there for very long --15-30 minutes at most. This whole thing should be over no later than 11:45 a.m. -- “RAIN OR SHINE” -- This event will probably go on even if we have rain, fog, cold, or wind. After all, we’ll be in position on the beach but briefly. There is plenty of parking in the Ocean Beach parking lot, and if you drive and the weather is ridiculous, you can remain in your car until the helicopter appears. (Then, please move quickly into position. People straggling across the sand “late” can spoil the images taken from the helicopter.)

-- DRESS WARM -- The beach can be unpredictable, so dress warmly. Bringing a TARP or BLANKET to lie down on is a great idea! An umbrella maybe.

DIRECTIONS

-- LOCATION: Ocean Beach is a mile-long stretch of sand located at the western end of Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, right beside the roadway called the “Great Highway”. The event site is almost exactly in the middle of Ocean Beach -- directly across the Great Highway from the Beach Chalet restaurant (public bathroom in the public lobby). A concrete sea wall runs along the beach, with numbered stairways (just ten or twelve steps) leading down to the sand. The event takes place approximately between Stairways 14 and 21.  MAP: 48th Ave and Lincoln Way, San Francisco, CA

TRANSPORTATION

-- BY CAR -- There is a huge parking area at Ocean Beach, and there are no other events scheduled there that morning. Last time there was no problem parking, but the parking lot was pretty full by “showtime” – and this time we’re expecting twice as many people, so… If you can, please carpool or use public transportation.

-- PUBLIC -- San Francisco’s MUNI system serves Ocean Beach very well. Fares, routes, and schedules at www.sfmuni.com. The “N-Judah” streetcar line and buses #5, #18, and #31 are among those that will drop you within a level, five- or ten-minute walk of Ocean Beach.

FOOD

-- There are several restaurants within easy walk of Ocean Beach. The excellent Beach Chalet is directly across the street from the event site. The Cliff House restaurant is plainly visible from the event site, and is a half-mile walk distant. Louie’s Diner is another 60 seconds walk beyond the Cliff House. A café is located at the end of the N-Judah line at Judah and 48th and there’s a 7-11 at 46th and Judah – both ten minutes from the beach. A large Safeway is five minutes from the beach at 48th and Fulton.

BATHROOMS

-- The ground floor lobby of the Beach Chalet restaurant is a public place with good sized public bathrooms. Please BE CAREFUL crossing the street – use the crosswalks. And you’ll be better off if you remember to use the bathroom before leaving home.
