THE EVENT
PLEASE ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 11 A.M. (Helicopters at noon sharp)
In
the past, people have straggled in at the last minute, and this really
does not work well for the organizers. It really works well if you’ve
chosen your spot by 11:30 a.m., half an hour before the helicopters
arrive. The helicopters have been very prompt, but during Beach Impeach
#3 I asked them by telephone to please delay their departure from the
airport for ten minutes because people were still straggling in. Also,
at ALL THREE events people have come up to me AFTERWARD and said, “Oh, I just
got here. Has it already happened?” Please get there on time -- it
simply works. Please arrive to the site by 11 a.m.
CINDY SHEEHAN (and other household names, too?)
We are so pleased that Cindy Sheehan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cindy_sheehan) is joining us.
There
will be no sound system at our event (bullhorns possibly), and
therefore no speeches or speakers. But Cindy will be with us from about
11 a.m. onward, and has said that she will greet and shake hands with
as many of us as possible before the helicopters arrive at noon. She’s
not fragile -- maybe you’ve noticed that she’s been arrested a number
of times (and this day will NOT add to her total) -- but let’s not ALL
overwhelm her by trying to tell her our entire life-stories in one
hour. I think it’s enough that we are able to say thank you for what
she has done for the peace, impeachment, and
let-us-please-return-to-sanity movements. At the same time, we can
certainly be real with her -- Cindy’s accessible and as human as they
come. And another thing -- Cindy’s biggest gift to us may be that her
presence might just open the door for other household names to slip in
with us. A few have been invited, more will be invited, and you never
know who may show up. If you have a direct line to any celebrity you
think would want to be here, invite them. Or if you’d like me to invite
them, steer me in their direction.
OUR MESSAGE -- THE “IMAGE”
I’m
expecting around 1,500 people, enough to spell out ‘IMPEACH!’ in
120-foot lettering. (All three previous Beach Impeach events
featured100-foot lettering.) We will be positioned so that the
photographers in the helicopters will be able to line up our message --
“IMPEACH!” -- in the foreground, with the San Francisco skyline and
bridges in the background. At past events we have “morphed” into
another message, and we may or may not do something along those lines
at #4 – but that decision hasn’t been made yet.
THE END
When
the last helicopter clatters away, the event is finished. I thoroughly
expect this to happen by 12:30 p.m. at the latest. Event finished. Feel
free to stick around -- and if you'd like, please say hello to me. I've
always been just about the very last one to leave. Please see that any
trash we generate gets delivered to a trash can. Thank you. Have a
great rest of the day. I know there is a LOT going on that day around
the Bay. But I do think there'll be room for us on the news that night
and the next day, too.
